Getting ready

Tonight, my youngest (yes, you could even call him my baby) had his baptismal interview with Bishop Kitchen. He was super cute and I loved being part of that moment with him! He was talking about being nervous about the interview on the way to the appointment and I had to remind him that he should not be nervous about talking to the Bishop who calls Jayden his third councilor. The Bishop loves Jayden and always gets a big smile on his face when Jayden sneaks in a few minutes of sitting on the stand next to his daddy before sacrament meeting starts. He even called Jayden his third councilor at the "It's great to be eight" meeting we had at the church preparing the kids for baptism.

Jayden made sure to study and recite the articles of faith before his appointment just in case the bishop asked him to recite one of them. He had though his daddy had said he would need to choose one to recite. Maybe it is that the kids who graduate from primary always have to get up and recite one. I am not sure what the reason, but it sure was cute that he made sure he had the third article of faith fully memorized just in case.

Jayden did a great job looking the Bishop in the eyes and thoughtfully answering his questions. He had such a sweet spirit about him as he answered the questions and as he talked about his excitement to be baptized on Halloween. The bishop was great and made sure to let Jayden know that there was nothing to be nervous about and spoke in a very warm, kind voice and smiled brightly to Jayden as he told him how proud of him he was for making the important choice to follow the Saviors example and be baptized.

For me, this is a very bittersweet moment. I have seen my baby go from feeling like he would not like to be baptized because you are asked to fast once you are a member, to a young man sitting with full excitement in his interview acting so mature and being so thoughtful in answering any questions the bishop asked him. He is growing up to be such a fine, responsible young man. I am so happy to see him making this important step in his life and I can't believe this moment has already arrived!
