This has been a tough day for me. It started off with some bad news about Jaimee. Jeff and Mardee were finally able to hold her after 3 weeks of her being hooked up to too many machines, but when they did, she was very stiff. It was quite evident that little Jaimee has extensive brain damage and is not responding any more than she was while on sedation medicine. This was hard news to get, especially when compounded with my feelings towards the passing of my dear friend (I will comment more about this at a later date, when I am back at home). I was glad to here the MRI results, however. My mom reported that the neurologist still left a lot of room to hope and pray for. He stated that Jaimee had not had any strokes, which was a real concern. There is speculation that her brain may have experience some shrinkage because of the measurements between her brain and skull, but since she had not ever had a previous scan to compair to, it may be in the normal range for her. It is unknown. There were no other signs of damage, so the doctor said her brain could make a recovery in time through therapy. It is more wait and see. This time it is wait to see how she responds to therapy, so it will be some time till we know what her long term prognosis will be.
Jeff and Mardee will be moving back to Simi asap in order to rely on family to help them through the months of therapy. They had a rough night last night, but feel blest that they still have their little girl and are glad for the hope the future brings. She has a big road ahead of her, since she has to relearn everything life brings. Luckily, she is only three and has her age on her side. Children her age have the ability to rewire their brains to relearn all those things she has lost. Please continue to pray for little Jaimee and her family as they start into the next phase of her recovery!
